Seasonal Message from PAL
It’s that time of year again…allergy season. In the southeast US,
the spring allergy season begins in February, long before the yellow pollen
is visibly layered all around. For many allergy sufferers, this is the worst
time of the year for their symptoms. Those who have seasonally varying allergy
difficulties will soon feel that all too familiar battle beginning.
The symptoms of allergic rhinitis are many. Affected individuals
may have the common nasal stuffiness, nasal and eye discharge, itchy
eyes and nose, postnasal drainage, cough, and sore throat in any
combination. However, there are other more subtle symptoms that may
be evident as well. These include fatigue, headache, difficulty sleeping
and/or snoring. Often these are more understated and therefore go
unrecognized as attributable to allergies.
If allergy difficulties have been experienced and diagnosed in a
previous year, it is a good idea to begin the prescribed medication(s)
before the symptoms begin. This will greatly lessen the impact or
eliminate it altogether. If any of these described symptoms apply
to you or your family members, please seek medical attention. Allergy
related problems and symptoms lead to many missed school and work
days annually. However, these may be avoided if properly evaluated
and treated by a qualified medical professional.
